Single malt specialist Gordon & MacPhail is opening up its warehouses to a lucky few clients as part of its Vintage Moments program, with Scottish soccer legend Sir Kenny Dalglish as its first customer.
Sir Kenny has chosen five whiskies corresponding with significant moments in his life, which will be unveiled in October and will be limited to just 15 sets. After that, selected private clients will be invited to explore Gordon & MacPhail’s extensive stocks and pick single casks from significant years in their lives.
Gordon & MacPhail is a specialist in single malt maturation. Ageing liquid from over 100 Scottish distilleries in their own casks, it manages a portfolio of vintages stretching every year from 1948 to 2003. Billing itself as curator and custodian of whisky, the company is over 130 years old.
Director of prestige for Gordon & MacPhail, Stephen Rankin says: “It is a source of immense pride to be the only Scotch whisky company in the world to have stocks from every vintage going back as far as 1948. This legacy allows Gordon & MacPhail to create exclusive, personalized box sets for our private clients and it’s a pleasure to kick off with Sir Kenny’s Vintage Moments ahead of this summer’s World Cup.”
Born in 1951, Sir Kenny is a well-known name in English and Scottish soccer, receiving acclaim and mythic status for his time playing for Celtic and Liverpool. As a manager, ‘King Kenny’ is known for winning the English First Division title with Liverpool three times and the English Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.
On the upcoming release, Sir Kenny commented: “I was delighted when Gordon & MacPhail approached me to celebrate my Vintage Moments. The experience of selecting specific single malts to share with others was an incredible memory in itself. I’ve been lucky enough throughout my life to have had some fantastic moments and narrowing these down to five pivotal years was not easy. But I am very much looking forward to the forthcoming release and sharing the stories behind my selections.”
The box sets will be released in October when the selection of whiskies, price, and presentation will be announced.
