Midleton Very Rare, Silent Distillery Chapter Six

The Silent Distillery Collection series began in 2020 with what was then the oldest Irish whiskey ever. Five years later, it concluded with Chapter Six, the first Irish whiskey to reach a 50-year age statement and the final drops from the Old Midleton Distillery. Distilled under master distiller Max Crockett and nurtured by his son Barry, this release marked the end of an era. Fewer than 250 bottles were produced, each priced at $60,000. Most of the whiskey’s life was spent in a refill ex-bourbon cask before a brief period in a custom barrel built from wood from the previous five releases, creating a symbolic closure for the series.
Nose
Barley, honey, orange peel, burnt pineapple, rhubarb, worn leather, antique oak
Palate
Muted fruit, dark chocolate, oak spice, floral notes, stone fruits
Finish
Honey, banana, mango, ginger
Sweet barley and honey open on the nose with orange peel, burnt pineapple and a touch of rhubarb, while worn leather and antique oak sit in the background. The palate has an oily texture that coats the mouth as aged notes take the lead, supported by dark chocolate, oak spice, floral hints and stone fruits. A long finish brings the sweetness back with banana, mango and ginger as the oily texture keeps the flavours evolving.
