Clase Azul México is releasing a limited-edition tequila to align with the country's hosting of this summer's FIFA World Cup.

While the brand’s messaging expertly avoids any mention of this summer’s tournament, Clase Azul Spirit of Champions is designed to celebrate the unity and pride the tournament can bring to its host nation. Games will be held in Mexico and Canada, with the bulk of the tournament hosted by the US.

Priced at $1,700 for a one-liter decanter, this limited release feels like a bargain compared to World Cup matches, as tickets to the final cost between $5,800 and $11,000. But it’s still expensive for tequila, particularly as this limited edition isn’t that limited, with 10,000 decanters available.

For your money, you will be getting a carefully considered joven tequila personally curated by master distiller Viridiana Tinoco. She mixed aged and unaged tequilas, although the bulk of the blend is made up of tequila aged for 28 months in French wooden vats made from fine-grain oak from the Forest of Tronçais. This is complemented with a small amount of unaged tequila created exclusively for this release.

The ceramic decanter is typically ornate with its ivory color strewn with gold lines and topped with a gold stopper. The Clase Azul emblem is crafted with malachite inlays and accented in green and gold. It has shades of the World Cup trophy about it, although don’t tell that to Gianni Infantino.

“Moments like these transcend sport; they bring cultures together to create lasting memories,” says Clase Azul founder and CEO, Arturo Lomelí. “This limited edition is a tribute to the unique magic that emerges when different nations pursue the same trophy and, for 90 minutes, remind us that shared passion connects us across borders.”

The release is available from April 14 at specialist locations, including Casa de los Leones—Clase Azul’s new home in Polanco, Mexico City; the Clase Azul Boutique in San José del Cabo, and select locations worldwide.
