After starting production in 2021, The Chuan Distillery is yet to release its own single malt whisky. While it's labeled a Chinese prestige malt, it's not yet a single malt. This debut bottle is a blend of The Chuan's young Chinese single malt and mature single malt Scotch. It does, however, give a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come from the distillery. The whisky has been aged in Chinese oak casks, which have been created using the distillery's own coopering technique.

Nose

Hazelnut praline, banana bread, barley

Palate

Baked apple, black cherry, malt

Finish

Candied fruit, dried figs, dates

The Chuan Pure Malt opens with a welcoming combination of rich malt and gentle sherry sweetness, layered with fresh ginger and subtle nutty notes that draw you back for another nosing. The palate has an immediately satisfying weight, coating the mouth with baked apples, black cherry and the unmistakable impression of Black Forest gâteau, all carried on a rich, oily texture that never feels cloying. As the whisky settles, darker dried fruits begin to emerge, with figs, dates and hints of black banana adding depth before the sherry influence returns on a finish that lingers gracefully. There is an easy confidence to the whisky throughout, balancing richness with freshness and making each sip feel every bit as rewarding as the last.
