Gordon & MacPhail added this remarkable Glenlivet 1949 to its Private Collection in 2023. Distilled in 1949 and matured for more than 70 years in a refill sherry butt selected on New Year’s Day that year, the whisky was bottled at natural cask strength of 49.3% ABV. Limited to 192 bottles, it represented the final remaining 1949 cask of Glenlivet in Gordon & MacPhail’s inventory and ranked among the oldest Glenlivet releases the company had ever bottled.
Nose
Stewed fruits, cinnamon, leather, aniseed, clementine, beeswax
Palate
Fruitcake, black pepper, menthol, treacle, charred oak
Finish
Citrus, spice, mixed nuts
Stewed fruit and cinnamon dominate the nose with aged leather and a trace of aniseed before it shifts to clementine and beeswax. The palate brings autumnal spice and fruitcake with cracked pepper, garden mint, dark treacle and charred oak. The finish is spicy with lasting citrus and mixed nuts. A full and warming profile.
