Clynelish, Prima & Ultima Fourth Release

Drawn from two experimental European oak butts seasoned with Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry, this Clynelish represents both a first and a final exploration of this cask style. Filled in 1996, the long maturation introduced a deeper sweetness and darker profile than is typical for the distillery, while retaining its underlying precision. The result is a more forceful expression of Clynelish’s character, shaped by an approach that deliberately pushed beyond established practice.
Nose
Toffee, baked orchard fruits, oak spice
Palate
Poached pears, apples, raisins, oak spice
Finish
Fruit, toffee, oak spice
The nose leans into rich sherry with toffee, baked fruit and gentle spice. On the palate the oak shows first, drying things out before a splash of water brings back the familiar Clynelish oiliness. Poached pears, apples and a light raisin note follow. The finish is long and calmly spiced with lingering fruit and a late return of toffee. It feels like a shift in style but still reads unmistakably as Clynelish.
