Drawn from three American oak hogsheads filled at the very end of the 1977 distillation season, this Brora represents the closing phase of the distillery’s peated era. The spirit was laid down during a period of reduced production, when Brora’s distinctive peat style was already beginning to recede. Unlike Islay peat, Brora’s character leaned toward sweetness rather than smoke, shaped by barley malted with lightly peated fuel. Bottled at natural strength, the whisky shows the distillery’s hallmark oily, wax-led texture, with gentle sweetness, restrained salinity and soft smoke giving way to firmer spice toward the finish.

Nose

Gentle smoke, tropical fruit, sea spray

Palate

Ripe pineapple, mango, maritime, peat smoke

Finish

Fruit sweetness, coastal salinity

The nose shows gentle shifting smoke that rises and falls in intensity, layered with tropical fruit hints and a subtle sea breeze. The palate is oily and rich, balancing ripe tropical notes with a light maritime influence as the smoke weaves in and out without overpowering. The long, measured finish carries lingering fruit sweetness and a touch of coastal salinity, a refined expression of Brora’s character at this age.
