The Glenrothes, 51 Year Old

The Glenrothes released its oldest whisky to date with a 51 Year Old single malt, drawn from a marriage of two casks: one sherry-seasoned and one remnant cask used historically for batch trials. Matured predominantly in sherry oak, the whisky reflected the distillery’s established style, balancing brightness with deeper, more developed complexity. Limited to 100 bottles, it underscored The Glenrothes’ long-standing focus on cask-driven maturation and restrained Speyside character.
Nose
Floral notes, heather, aniseed, candied fruits, vanilla pods
Palate
Butterscotch, oak spice, vanilla, baked apple, cinnamon
Finish
Dried oak, oak spices, dry finish
The nose is packed with floral notes of heather and aniseed, layered with candied fruits and vanilla pods as the fragrant notes build into pronounced aniseed, all surprisingly fresh for the age. The palate brings plenty of sweetness up front with light spice and soft vanilla before deeper notes of baked apples with sweet spices arrive and aged oak tones start to take over. The finish moves from vibrant and sweet to complex and mature, showing dried oak, wood spice and a pleasantly dry close.
