Gordon & MacPhail, The Mr George Legacy Series 1954
The fifth and final release in Gordon & MacPhail's Mr George Legacy Series, this 70-year-old Glen Grant was distilled in 1954. A tribute to George Urquhart, the “father of single malt,” this whisky spent its entire life in a first-fill sherry puncheon, developing deep, mature flavors. Gone are Glen Grant’s light, fruity notes, replaced by stewed prunes, cinnamon, dark chocolate and oak spice, with subtle hints of dried orange peel and apple skin
Nose
Orange peel, stewed prunes, cinnamon, dark chocolate, worn leather
Palate
Walnuts, dried tobacco, dark chocolate, Christmas spices, charred oak
Finish
Smoke, menthol, fruit
Orange peel and stewed prunes lead on the nose with cinnamon, dark chocolate and worn leather. The palate follows with walnut, dried tobacco, dark chocolate, Christmas spices and charred oak. A long finish carries a touch of smoke and menthol with lingering fruit.
