Blue Hanger, 14th Release 26 Years Old
Berry Bros. & Rudd's in-house blend, Blue Hanger, returns after more than a decade, the first release since the 13th Edition and the first composed by spirits curator Felix Dear. The blend includes seven casks – six ex-bourbon hogsheads and one ex-sherry butt – with the youngest malt aged 26 years. Non-chill-filtered and natural color at 45.6%, it's limited to 2,500 bottles.

Long finish, antique oak, hazelnut praline
There's something wonderfully old-fashioned about Blue Hanger, and I mean that entirely as a compliment. From the first nosing it feels mature and assured, conjuring dusty cellars, old wooden furniture, and the faint sweetness of a traditional pastry shop. The absence of grain whisky – this is a blended malt – gives the palate real breadth, with a lovely weight of malt carrying fruit, spice, and just enough smoke to keep things interesting. Nothing feels hurried here; flavors unfold slowly rather than clamoring for attention. That sense of age returns beautifully on the finish, becoming drier and nuttier, with tea leaves, cereal, and malted milk before a final wisp of smoke disappears. It's the sort of whisky that encourages contemplation rather than analysis: complex, quietly confident, and deeply satisfying. A delicious reminder of just how characterful a great blended malt can be.
