Founded in 2023, The Heart Cut is juvenile in the Scotch business but has already announced itself as a major player capable of doing things differently. While other independents rely on bottling big-name distilleries, The Heart Cut looks to champion the up-and-coming pretenders around the world. Ardnamurchan is the perfect example: a young distillery on the most westerly part of the British mainland, it's already highly regarded among whisky drinkers just 12 years after opening.

Lingering smoke, dried apricot, oak tannin
The nose on this Scotch is the star of the show, oozing with caramel and seriously inviting sweetness. This is creamy and unctuous with some nuttiness and singed fruit starting to come through after a few moments. On the palate, that nuttiness is immediately present in the form of a mouth-coating oil, while a waft of salinity and smoke rounds out stone fruit notes. The finish is where that smoke really lingers, alongside some grip from the cask on the cheeks and a lasting furry apricot sensation, too. A wonderful example of the gems coming out of Ardnamurchan Distillery right now – and recognized by the brilliant folk at The Heat Cut.
