The Macallan's Harmony Collection concluded its eclectic journey with the Inspired by Coconut release in 2026, the sixth in the series. This release, Inspired by Fresh Coconut, was available globally, while its twin, Inspired by Toasted Coconut, was only available in travel retail. As the name suggests, whiskymakers had to draw coconut flavors out of their cask inventory. They did so using sherry-seasoned American oak casks and ex-bourbon casks – the latter being atypical for modern Macallan release.

Nose

Vanilla, Creme caramel, citrus fruits

Palate

Desiccated coconut, lemon, lime

Finish

Oak spice, dried fruits

This whisky promises fresh coconut, but I don't get much of that on the nose. There is, however, plenty of bourbon and/or American oak influence in there: Sweet vanilla, creme caramel, and both citrus and tropical fruits sitting above a hint of toasted oak. There is a distinctive lusciousness on the nose, promising viscosity. There are some identifiable coconut notes on the palate. I'm thinking more dessicated than fresh, but I'm calling that a delivery on a promise. By the middle of the palate, the sherry-seasoned oak casks have a grip on proceedings – we're into more familiar Macallan territory now with dried fruits and oak spice, all working nicely with lemon and lime. A punter would hope for more of those ex-bourbon notes that the nose promised, but then that wouldn't be a Macallan, or would it?
