House of Hazelwood, An Organised Whole

Blending experts House of Hazelwood bring out another release from The Charles Gordon Collection. Bringing together a range of distilleries from across the Highlands, this 45-year-old blended malt is aged in American oak hogsheads and sherry butts. Positioned as a study in blending, An Organised Whole is a characteristically limited release of 267 bottles — a meticulous marriage promised to be greater than the sum of its parts, balancing a variety of Highland malts against rich sherried depth.
Nose
Crème caramel, baking spice, figs
Palate
Oily texture, dried fruit, salinity
Finish
Golden syrup, baking spices, polished oak
The nose is luxurious with a wonderful combination of dark sugar and creaminess. Creme caramel springs immediately to mind, along with some warming spices wafting from the oven and dark fruits like figs and dates. The palate has a surprising salinity with a distinct oiliness as it evolves. Bags of dried fruit enter, which add a tannic texture. The finish has syrupy sweetness, and spices prickle slightly on the back tongue too.
