Islay distillery Laphroaig reintroduced the 15 Year Old to its core range in June 2026, bringing back a liquid that was first launched in 1985 to offer a softer style compared to its heavily medicinal 10 Year Old. The 15 Year Old was originally discontinued and replaced with the 18 Year Old in 2009, and last appeared as a limited edition in 2015 to celebrate Laphroaig’s 200th anniversary. Those bottles, and the original 15 Year Old, are highly sought-after by Laphroaig fans.

Nose

Lemon, brine, charred meat

Palate

Sea spray, oyster shells

Finish

Forest floor, vaporized rubber

The nose opens with surprising softness. You wouldn't know this was a Laphroaig if you nosed it blind. There's a lot of bitter fruit up front: lemon zest and grapefruit. Underneath it, you get into the signature notes: brine, charred meat, and freshly scorched earth. That sweetness doesn't follow through to the palate, which is dominated by Laphroaig's coastal influence: sea spray and oyster shells, backed up with a luscious oily texture. You do have to commend the distillery for sticking with 46%, as non-chill-filtered chewiness feels essential to the experience. There's a medium finish, with the bitter lemons finally making an appearance alongside some forest mulch and classic Laphroaigian vaporized rubber.
