A blended malt aged for 46 years, House of Hazelwood presents A Fond Farewell as part of its 2026 Charles Gordon Collection. With just 252 bottles, this expression is one of four rare Scotch whiskies released this year from the Gordon family's private archives. On top of this, the whisky is comprised exclusively from refill European and American oak casks filled on Hogmanay, a Scottish New Year's celebration, making this a rare bottle indeed.

Nose

Coconut, lemon meringue, melon

Palate

Chamomile tea, polished oak, herbal spice

Finish

Oak spice, butter, rancio

Considering the age of this whisky, the nose and palate are exceptionally bright, fresh, and vibrant. The nose is really surprising, with the tart citrus and rich pastry of lemon meringue pie topped with lightly toasted coconut, while a curveball comes in the form of florality and cantaloupe melon. The palate feels shyer yet pretty with chamomile tea, discernible oak, and green notes of rosemary and thyme. The finish is nice: texture comes in the form of butter, with a sherry influence really shining through right at the end.
