This full-throttled Talisker has had an unusual journey into the bottle, spending 20 years in Amoroso-seasoned American oak hogsheads before being released as part of the Diageo Rare Series in 2026. Amoroso is a sweetened version of oloroso sherry and instills dark fruits, spice, and dryness into whisky. That influence has to balance with Talisker's salty, maritime signature, something the whisky makers have managed here. The release was limited to just 331 bottles.

Nose

Maritime notes, raisins, seaweed

Palate

Sea salt, seaweed, fruitcake

Finish

Black pepper, oak spice

Having spent over 20 years in amoroso-seasoned American oak hogsheads, you can call this an experimental batch of Talisker. The nose is full of dark fruits, tobacco, and marmalade, all tempered by Talisker’s trademark salinity. It grips your palate, pulling your cheeks inwards. There is drying whisky, and then there is dry whisky. This strays into the latter. But while the texture is challenging, the flavor is not. Talisker’s maritime notes – salt, smoke, seaweed – are complemented by fruitcake and cinnamon spice.
