The first 50-year-old from Aberlour, this is nothing short of a big swing from a relatively small distillery. Although small compared to its Speyside neighbors, Aberlour is renowned for packing a punch with big-hitting whiskies. Its A’Bunadh series sets the benchmark for cask strength whiskies. That liquid is all heat and punch – raw, full-throttle Scotch built for power over polish. The 50 Year Old is not that. It doesn’t smack you in the mouth. Quite the opposite. Aged in a gentle refill ex-bourbon cask, it lands soft but still delivers on Aberlour’s core promise: flavor first.

Nose

Red apple, melon, orange zest

Palate

Marmalade, hazelnuts, nutmeg

Finish

Cacao, charred oak

The nose leads with orchard fruit like red apple and ripe melon, followed by orange zest and sticky toffee. On the palate, it leans into richer marmalade, then deepens: toasted hazelnut, nutmeg, cacao nibs, and charred oak. It’s not a bomb; it’s layered and composed. Think of it as the whisky equivalent of a high-end Christmas chocolate box: sharp citrus, golden caramel and the hazelnut 'purple one' everyone reaches for first.
