The Macallan, 12 Year Old 110 Proof

When it was revealed in 2025, The Macallan 12 Year Old 110 Proof represented the first widely released age-stated whisky in years to offer a high-strength pour of the distillery's sherry-seasoned spirit. The closest comparison is Classic Cut, a non-age-stated whisky bottled at 50% ABV, which was discontinued shortly after the 12 Year Old's unveiling.
Nose
Sticky dates, cherry compote, orange oil, cacao nibs
Palate
Dark chocolate, sultanas, toffee apple, fruit cake, roasted hazelnut
Finish
Treacle, sweet cinnamon, oak spice
Richly sherried but not overcooked. The nose leads with dried figs, cherry compote, orange peel and cinnamon, backed by dark chocolate and a touch of cocoa. The palate is dense and oily, layering treacle, raisin, toffee and espresso with a sharp jolt of ginger and clove. There's balance here: sweetness up front, spice and oak in the back, all underpinned by 110-proof weight without burn. Water brings out more fruit and softens the edges. The finish is long, warm and spiced — treacle toffee, dried fruit and mocha tapering into char and soft tannin. A muscular, well-built dram.
