This legendary whisky was distilled in the middle of Bowmore's golden decade. The 1960s have become synonymous with producing some of the best single malt Scotch of all time, including the ethereal Black Bowmore. This 1965 vintage deserves to be held in similar regard.

Nose

Tinned pineapple, fruit gum, smoke, leather, oud, sandalwood, cherries, lavender, white musk

Palate

Peaches, cream, apple juice, banana fritter, orange peel, milk chocolate, honeycomb, vanilla pipe tobacco, licorice

Finish

Parma ham, sea salt, star anise, nutty smoke

The aromas gave tropical tinned fruits, juicy fruit chewing gum, soft smoke, new leather, oud, sandalwood and cherries. Some lavender and white musk rounded off the nose. The palate delivered peaches and cream, clear apple juice, griddled banana, orange peel, milk chocolate and honeycomb, underpinned by vanilla pipe tobacco and earthy licorice. The finish delivered Parma ham, sea salt and star anise. A nutty, lingering smoke completed this rare Scotch.
