Often touted as an outstanding, yet somewhat underrated Highland single malt, The Glendronach has recently hit a terrific vein of form with the release of two new, super-aged whiskies, showcasing the talents of master blender Rachel Barrie. The Valley of Forgue-based distillery has favored bolder sherry-driven whiskies with its past releases (the excellent 18-year-old Allardice and 21-year-old Parliament) and this 30-year-old continues Barrie's fascination with exploring the nuances of different sherry styles, including Oloroso, Pedro Ximinez, and the more unusual Amontillado.

Nose

Rich fruit, potpourri

Palate

Oak spice, tannins, morello cherry, marzipan

Finish

Sultanas, cinnamon, chocolate spread

Full-bodied with a rich, fruity aroma that opens through steady complexity. The palate is lightly oaked, barely drying and held together by controlled tannins. A touch of water brings perfect balance, allowing the fruit-driven sweetness to hold its line. It finishes with layered richness, rounded and confident.
