Gordon & MacPhail, Artistry in Oak 85 Year Old
On February 3, 1940, 15 sherry butts were filled at Glenlivet for Gordon & MacPhail. Eighty-five years later, one of those casks has produced Artistry in Oak—the oldest Scotch ever bottled at the time of release. Just 125 decanters exist, priced at £125,000 ($170,000) each. Designed by architect Jeanne Gang, the sculptural vessel suspends the whisky in bronze stems that evoke oak branches encasing amber.

Leather and marmalade make a strong first impression, moving into pineapple and aniseed. The palate hits hard with spice before the sweetness catches up. The finish stays smoky and slightly herbal.
