Mortlach, Prima & Ultima Second Release

Drawn from a single 1995 Pedro Ximenez/Oloroso-seasoned European oak butt, this 25-Year-Old Mortlach showcases the distillery’s signature power with remarkable refinement. Nicknamed The Lone Wolf for its distinctive character, it is rich, layered, and exceptionally complex. For the Prima & Ultima Second Release, Master of Malts Maureen Robinson personally selected the cask, noting: “This is a rare chance to experience a deeper, more noble side of the whisky known as ‘The Beast of Dufftown.’ It is a magnificent, many-layered mature malt, with a character as individual as the distillery that produced it.”
Nose
Baked apple, Christmas spices, soaked raisins
Palate
Oak spice, baked apple, nutmeg, cinnamon
Finish
Oak spice, dried fruits
Fruit and florals rise in waves on the nose. The palate is lightly oaked with fine tannins and a touch of dryness. Water brings perfect balance, sharpening the fruit without losing sweetness. The finish starts juicy then settles into fuller malt depth.
