This rare Lagavulin is the first from a small experimental batch matured entirely on Islay in freshly charred American oak hogsheads. Over time, the smoky spirit has mellowed, becoming elegantly rounded and smooth. For the Prima & Ultima Second Release, master of malts Maureen Robinson hand-selected just five casks filled on the same day, remarking: “Lagavulin was the first single malt I ever tasted and remains a favorite. This expression is a fine white stallion of a malt, where elegance and restrained smoke deliver all the power needed.”

Nose

Linseed oil, potpourri

Palate

Tropical fruit, smoke, salt, oak spice, vanilla

Finish

Stem ginger, peat smoke

A simple, focused nose of linseed oil and incense. The palate starts light with sweetness and smoke before salt and mature oak take over. Vanilla spice appears as it dries. The finish is long with ginger warmth and a small wisp of smoke.
