Talisker released its oldest whisky to date with the 43 Year Old Xpedition Oak: The Atlantic Challenge, limited to 1,830 bottles. Matured for over four decades, the whisky received a final maturation in casks made from staves that had crossed the Atlantic by sea. Bottled at natural strength, it amplifies Talisker’s coastal character, where sea salt, smoke and sweetness sit alongside a rounded, waxy texture shaped by long ageing and maritime influence.

Nose

Bruised apple, beeswax, fresh linen, varnished wood, sea spray, smoke

Palate

Sweetness, ocean salt spray, peppery warmth

Finish

Chillipepper, vanilla, oak tannins

The nose is mellow and slightly spicy with bruised apple, soft wax and deeper layers of canvas, varnished wood and maritime notes of sea air and warm sand over a faint smoky base. The palate is smooth with a vibrant, juicy opening that blends sweetness with a splash of ocean spray before Talisker’s familiar pepper heat takes hold. The finish is wonderfully long with a spreading sweet chilli warmth that fills the palate.
