Loch Lomond released a 50 Year Old single malt drawn from a small parcel of its oldest stock, limited to 100 decanters. Distilled in 1973 using unpeated barley, the whisky matured primarily in refill ex-bourbon casks before periods in first-fill bourbon and an oloroso sherry hogshead. This extended, multi-stage maturation preserved distillery character while building layered complexity. Bottled at cask strength, the release marked one of the most mature expressions ever produced by the distillery.

Nose

Orange peel, honey, peaches, peppermint, tropical fruit

Palate

Coconut, caramel, vanilla, nutmeg, ginger

Finish

Dried fruit, cinnamon, sweet spice

Light and floral aromas belie the whisky’s age, with orange peel, blossom honey, peaches and a hint of peppermint. The palate is delicate and almost weightless but carries coconut, caramel and vanilla with subtle nutmeg and ginger spice. The finish stretches out, moving into classic sherried territory with dried fruit and warm spice.
