Ron Abuelo, XV Oloroso Finish

Clear in appearance with a deep, almost burnt red hue, this rum shows little cling in the glass. The nose is initially shy, but opens into baked apples, orange oil, lime zest and bubbling hot caramel, backed by waxy nuttiness and plenty of oak influence. The palate arrives with notable sweetness, reflecting its sugar cane syrup base, before lively spice takes hold through cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Jammy orange notes build alongside touches of dried sultana and mango from the finishing cask. Despite the sweetness, the texture stays controlled rather than cloying. The finish is short to medium, sweet, citrus-led and gently spiced.
