Midleton Very Rare, 2023 Vintage Release
Marking its 40th release, Midleton Very Rare 2023 pairs a quiet shift in sustainability with a more assertive liquid. The move to recyclable packaging is a headline, but the whisky itself leans firmly into maturity. Kevin O’Gorman increases the use of first-fill bourbon casks, bringing pronounced oak spice, ginger and hazelnut over the series’ usual sweetness. Creamy in texture and confidently structured, it’s a version aimed squarely at seasoned Irish whiskey drinkers.

Vanilla and wooded spice lead with lemon peel, mandarin and burnt sugar opening as it breathes. The palate shows hazelnut praline, vanilla and toffee followed by baked apple and the familiar crème brûlée profile Midleton is known for. The finish carries bold wooded spice to the end.
