Midleton Very Rare, Silent Distillery Chapter 5

Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter 5 was released as the penultimate chapter in the series, arriving ahead of the distillery’s 200th anniversary finale. Bottled at 49 years old, it briefly held the title of the oldest Irish whiskey ever released. Matured entirely in American ex-bourbon barrels before a short marrying period, the whiskey shows pronounced oak influence alongside tropical fruit, spice and a dense, creamy texture, reflecting traditional pot still character at extreme age.
Nose
Cashews, coconut, pineapple
Palate
Oak spice, pineapple, apricot, ginger
Finish
Oak spice, forest floor, dunnage warehouse
Honey-roasted cashews and a mossy earthiness give the nose weight before it turns tropical with coconut and pineapple syrup. The palate needs a touch of water to settle the spice, but once it does the tropical and stone fruit notes take over. The finish brings the oak back for a final spicy push.
