Buffalo Trace Distilery is hallowed turf for American whiskey fans, and now the producer is inviting you to sleep on it.
Buffalo Trace Summer Camp is centered around classic activities you knew as a child, but reworked through the lens of bourbon, a staple of Buffalo Trace.
There’s a Whisky Woodcraft Workshop focused on American white oak’s role in bourbon. You’ll have a custom muddler carved directly from old distillery barrel staves by the end of it. There’s also a bung driving relay, paring more woodworking tasks – this time, barrel prep – and a competitive race.
Of course, there will be bourbon, in the form of a blind tasting in the Single Barrel Challenge. This will involve sampling three barrels of the same bourbon, and attempting to identify the age of each barrel.
The overnight camp involves large canvas yurt-like tents, fully air-conditioned and furnished on the Frankfort grounds.
The Camp Buffalo Trace experience will take place on August 29 and September 5, but is limited to just 200 guests across the two sessions.
True to Buffalo Trace form, attendance will be managed exclusively through online sweepstakes. Ninety winners will receive the day camping experience across each date, while there are ten slots per session for the overnight experience.
The sweepstakes opens on July 14 and ends July 21, at 11:59 AM (ET). It should be noted that a place at the camp is only available for those living in the US.
The summer camp experience is part of the Kentucky distillery’s lineup of interactive seasonal programming opening the distillery up to the public. Similar events include the National Historic Landmark Tour and the Backyard Sessions Summer Concert Series.
