Louis XIII
Louis XIII needs no grand introduction. It stands at the very top of the cognac world as a benchmark, a reference point, a spirit whose reputation is matched only by the patience required to create it.
Nose
Tarte Tatin, fig, dates, apricot, dried banana, candied orange, leather, hazelnuts, jasmine
Palate
Citrus oil, white grape, red apple, prune, dark chocolate, rancio, cedar, nutmeg, ginger, honey
Finish
Cedar, leather, orchard compote
Immediately aromatic on the nose and deeply layered notes of tarte tatin, fig, date and apricot. A note of dried banana and candied orange peel is bolstered by polished vintage leather and chopped hazelnuts. A slight hint of jasmine follows. The palate is rich and silky, with candied citrus peel leading the charge. Fresh white grape juice, light Pinot Noir notes and red apple give way to deeper flavors of prune, dark chocolate and rancio. Ginger appears toward the end, along with cedar, gentle oak spice and a touch of Manuka honey. The finish is long and persistent with notes of leather-bound books, cedar and a hint of summer fruit compote.
