This latest limited release – the third Cellar Aged bottling from Kentucky's Maker's Mark – showcases the depth of aged stock available to master distiller, Blake Layfield. Drawn from both traditionally matured rickhouse whisky and additionally matured chalk cellar stock, the cooler temperatures allow for a slower, more considered maturation. It's the oldest Maker's Mark released to date and is blended from a range of differing age statements: 74% from casks aged 11 years, 10% from 13-year-old casks and 16% from casks aged 14 years old. As expected, it's extremely full-bodied and complex.

Nose

Tobacco, cherries, baked apple, dark chocolate, polished oak

Palate

Fudge, oak spice, caramel, vanilla, cherry compote, almond

Finish

Oak spice, orange zest

Rich aromas of tobacco, cherry and dark chocolate set the tone. The palate follows with a creamy start before shifting into spiced oak, caramel and ripe vanilla. There is plenty of depth here, carried by cherry compote and almond. It finishes long with assertive oak, citrus peel and drier spice.
